The theme of birds comes back in fashion in the XVIIIth century. After a period of realism that prevailed around the time of the publishing of Buffon’s “Natural History of Birds”, here we see a return to more fantastical representations of birds. Denis Levé, who produced this cup in the Sèvres workshops, was a remarkable bird painter and was often called upon to work with ornithologists.
